Building for the Future: Update on Elizabeth Houses #2 and #3
Digging, cement, rebar, stone and a temporary office may not look like much. But together, they represent something much bigger: the beginning of a new structure for our sisters and brothers in East Africa.
Building on What We Started
Our first Elizabeth House, EH #1, was completed in April 2026. The apartment building is already generating a steady income that will help provide for the higher education of children at Star of Hope Orphanage.
Now we are building on that success.
On August 3, 2026, we broke ground on Elizabeth Houses #2 and #3. Just six weeks later, significant progress had already been made on the foundations.
The Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood donated the land, property that was not suitable for farming but was ideal for residential development. We are working with the same architect and contractor who built EH #1, along with a trusted on-site manager who lives in an apartment at EH #1. And we are blessed with a strong workforce of laborers eager to work on a secure project.
And, of course, we continue to place our trust in the generosity of our donors.
More Than Apartments
Why build two more rental properties?
Because these buildings are about much more than bricks and mortar. Our goal is to make our programs increasingly sustainable, so that the impact of today's investment can continue helping people for years to come.
Together, Elizabeth Houses #2 and #3 will contain 46 apartments. The income generated from those apartments will help support three important areas of ministry:
Microfinance: Providing start-up funds for more than 100 microfinance groups, helping women and families create opportunities for themselves.
The Magdalene Program: Supporting street women as they work to transform their lives and build a more secure future.
Education: Providing scholarships for children living in slums or on the margins of society who are being mentored by the Precious Blood Sisters in East Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan.
This is the heart of the African Ministry Fund mission: creating sustainable resources that allow our partners to continue changing lives.
A Foundation for the Future
We anticipate completing Elizabeth Houses #2 and #3 in December 2027, with occupancy beginning in early 2028.
There is still a long way to go. But every foundation stone brings us closer to a future where the work of AMF can be supported by sustainable income rather than relying solely on annual fundraising.
What begins with a foundation will eventually become homes, income and opportunity and a lasting investment in the people we serve.
And we continue to believe in our guiding mantra:
Impossible is God’s starting point.
