What does the St. Michael Project do?

The St. Michael Project helps Star of Hope students when they turn 18 are aged out the orphanage system. Each student is counseled, and a specific plan and path is set out for and with then for their future. This could include job training, mentoring, and/or ongoing education in their chosen field of study. Usually, the cost is between $500 and $1,500.

What are some of the success stories of the graduates of Star of Hope?

Our graduates have gone on to do amazing things! Some have become nurses, teachers, craftsmen, and other professionals. One even became an airplane pilot, and a recent graduate is pursuing her dream of becoming a Sister of the Precious Blood. With the excellent education they receive and the support from the St. Michael Project, they have a strong start toward building bright, successful futures.

How does the St Magdalene Program work?

The director, Patience, meets with each woman individually as she arrives. Immediate assistance usually involves safe shelters, food and medical attention for herself and her child/children. Once the woman is safe, a plan is set up for training for a small business, school is found for their child/children and future housing in found.

How is the project at Buwea school funded through the Education Program?

Each year we plan to raise funds for one additional classroom. Each classroom will cost $20,000. Because parents have developed successful businesses, they can also contribute to the upkeep of the school, but it is not enough to keep adding classrooms. We anticipate that the attendance will double as the need for education of the extremely poor is ever present.

How does the St Jon's program work?

The essence of Microfinancing is to "give a hand up not a handout". As a result, the members are determined to pay back loans because they appreciate the chance, they are given to build a future by starting their own business. Sr. Mary Paul and Sr. Anne Suzanne teach the members of the groups the principles of microfinancing. They continual to meeting with the groups and help them to succeed. Typically, a hand-up seed money to a team of 20 to 40 members is between $200 and $1,500.

Why is the Sustainable Program so important?

African Ministry Fund will not start a program in Africa unless it can be sustainable without us. Therefore, as we plan our programs, we plan how it will become self-sustaining in time. The cost for these plans averages per program between $300,000 and $500,000.
