New Farm in Izimbya Village

Women in the BUKOBA region needed daycare for their small children while they developed their income generating projects. By 2024, they had four classrooms and were ready for another level. In 2025, African Ministry Fund donated funds to build another classroom for the BUWEA School.

BUWEA began with a small prayer group of 7 women. During their weekly meetings they decided to begin a merry-go-round savings project. They began to provide loans to one another taking turns using the savings to begin small businesses.  Within a few years and with the help of an Incarnate Word Sister who taught them the principles of microfinancing and community building, they have expanded to over a thousand groups of women in the Bukoba Region and beyond.

Today we received this update with pictures from Regina in Bukoba. In addition to the day care/school, the women do farming to support their other projects.

“We thank the Lord for entering 2026.  It is a gift from God to make us communicate with our sisters and brothers.  We have opened a new farm at Izimbya Village which is coming to be a good support to other projects. It is doing well.

The investment to the farm is coming from the profit we get from the revolving program.  We have acquired land and also some small farm equipment.  The corn harvest is estimated to give 4-5 tons.  Vegetables, 2 tons and we can plant twice a year."

Izimbya is located in the Bukoba Region, which is located on Lake Victoria.
