The true impact of microfinancing was on full display during the recent Microfinancing Conference in Juja, Kenya, as participants reflected on challenges, celebrated strengths, and committed to growth.
Held at the Precious Blood Secondary School gym and led by Sister Mary Paul Wamatu, the gathering welcomed over 300 members of microfinancing groups supported by the African Ministry Fund. After prayer, shared meals, and words of encouragement, the afternoon shifted toward honest and meaningful dialogue.
Accountability, availability, and reliability were named as common challenges. Yet, as discussions unfolded, participants realized these same areas were also sources of strength. Groups spoke about the importance of listening to one another, putting God first, rotating money responsibly, respecting leadership, maintaining transparency, and staying fully committed. Values such as confidentiality, cooperation, prayer, and a positive mindset emerged as essential foundations for success.
One of the most inspiring moments came when two women in their 80s shared their experiences with microfinancing. One woman described starting with a small donut business. Over time, she hired others, saved consistently, and invested in rental properties. Today, she enjoys financial stability and independence, confident that she can provide for herself without burdening her children.
The day ended with blessings and heartfelt goodbyes. Participants returned home renewed in purpose and proud of how far they had come. Sister Mary Paul, witnessing the growth and confidence of the groups, was overflowing with joy.
