At Kikoko Mission Hospital in Kilungu, Kenya, something extraordinary is happening. What began in May 2024 as a small microfinance initiative has quickly grown into a powerful force for hope, independence, and economic transformation among hospital staff.
The Kikoko Mission Hospital Staff Development Group, formed under the guidance of the Precious Blood Sisters, was created with a simple but meaningful mission: to uplift and support staff members through access to small loans and shared encouragement. Today, the group includes 14 dedicated members, each working hard to build a more secure future for themselves and their families.
Turning Opportunity into Action
Each member of the group has taken the opportunity to invest in small, sustainable projects. These efforts are already producing remarkable results.
Anna Kioko launched an agro-vet business with an initial investment of 100,000 Kenyan shillings. Through determination and careful management, her business has doubled in value, demonstrating the power of access to capital and entrepreneurial spirit.
Lidya Wambui has focused on agriculture, planting crops such as tomatoes and achieving a successful harvest. Her efforts not only provide income but also inspire plans for expansion.
Stellamaries began with just two sheep. Today, her flock has doubled, showing how even modest beginnings can grow into meaningful assets.
Elizabeth Kaleli started raising cattle, and the growth of her calf has given her optimism for future expansion. Others, like Snourine Mumbua and Robert Ndioo, have invested in farming, growing maize, arrowroots, and preparing land for future harvests.
Businesses That Support Families
Many members have used their projects to directly support their families’ most important needs.
Anna Waita’s chicken project allowed her to pay school fees for her children. Christine Mulwa also raised chickens and farmed crops, helping her meet essential family expenses. Josephine Kyove began selling clothing, traveling to reach customers and grow her business despite limited resources.
Emanuel Mbithi has successfully raised goats, selling some to support his family while reinvesting in his herd. Idrónicas Kamau’s poultry project has grown from just a few chickens to more than fifty—a powerful example of steady progress.
Growth Beyond Income
These projects are about more than financial gain. They represent dignity, confidence, and self-reliance. Members are learning business skills, supporting one another, and building a culture of shared success.
Prisca, one of the members, expressed deep gratitude for the group, noting that it has helped her overcome family challenges and improve her household’s stability.
A Future Filled with Promise
The Kikoko Mission Hospital Staff Development Group is still young, but its impact is already profound. Through small loans, encouragement, and faith in one another, these dedicated individuals are building businesses, educating their children, and strengthening their community.
This microfinance initiative proves that when people are given opportunity and support, transformation follows. What started as a small group has become a beacon of hope - one project, one family, and one success story at a time.
